3 Famous Wushu Masters
Li Shuwen (1864-1934)
Nicknamed the "God of the Lance" his unsurpassed skill with the lance is matched only by his invincible fists of Baji.
Famous throughout Northen China, Master Li was a small man who was never defeated in his life.
He was indeed more than human - chewing and crushing pebbles is one of his hobbies.
The Master once said," I never know how my second punch feels like, because nobody ever survived a single punch of mine."
Unfortunately his invincibility drew much jealousy and hatred - he died of poisoning by his enemies at the age of 70.
He's a native of Zhangsa Village, Cang County of Hebei Province.
For a brief history of Bajiquan, goto GM Liu Memorial Homepage.
A native of Mouping, Shandong Province, he mastered his Baguazhang from Yin Fu, the best student of the Founder of Baguazhang, Dong Haichuan (1796-1880). He was a bodyguard of a major general of the court, and later became the security chief in the mansion of Prince Su.
Ding Zicheng (1851 -194?)
He retired in 1934.
That's also the year Grandmaster Liu met him and became his disciple.
Gong, despite being an opium addict, was unfathomable in his mastery, especially his light body skills and missile throwing skills.
Powerful as he is, he's very humble, seldom competing with others.
Because of this he is well respected by all, including the fearsome Master Li.
Thus humility is the most important lesson of the Bagua style.

Ding is a master of 6-harmony Mantis, a soft and fluid style, and a respected millionaire in Huang County, Shandong Province.
His prowess in this special style of Mantis and his open method of instruction was quite well known in Shandong.
The 19 year old Grandmaster Liu (which will be introduced below) first met him in 1928.
Ding easily defeated our young grandmaster at that time, despite Liu having defeated many expert exponents with Bajiquan in Shandong.
That made him learn earnestly under Ding for several years.
Master Ding was not just a great warrior and teacher, he was a philanthropist, always smiling, always obliging.
The people nicknamed him "Living Bodhisattva" for his kindness and generosity.

He's a native of Jitao Village, Cang County of Hebei Province, who was a famous Nationalist Secret Agent who retreated with the others to Taiwan when the Nationalists lost the war in 1949.
One of the greatest wushu masters of this century, he was the last and the best personal student of Li Shuwen; and also a personal student of both Gong Baotian and Ding Zicheng.
Their respective styles are GM Liu's expertise.
Besides the above 3, GM Liu is a master of many other styles as well, for he is a true genius in this field.
In order to preserve the vast Wushu knowledge kept by himself and many of his compatriots, he started the Wu Tan Organization.
A powerful warrior and an enlightened teacher, he's nicknamed the "Old Taoist" who is deeply respected in Taiwan by students and masters alike even after his death.
